Fall Fun with Your Pet

Fall is the perfect season for outdoor activities, family gatherings, and holiday celebrations. Whether you prefer baking delicious treats, tailgating for the big game, or enjoying the beautiful changing leaves, there are tons of ways to include your favorite furry friend in on the fun. As man’s best friend, your dog will love to be a part of your annual festive activities and get-togethers, as long as you always keep their safety in mind. Check out some of our favorite ways to have fun with your pet this fall season.

Go For a Hike

No matter where you live, fall is a beautiful season as nature transitions from the heat of summer to the cooler winter months. Find a dog-friendly hiking trail using a trail finding app or website and then hit the road with your furry best friend. Both of you will benefit from some fresh air and the adventure of exploring a new area.

Before heading out, make sure you know the rules of the trail, including whether your dog needs to be on a leash, and know if you should be prepared for other off-leash dogs. Also, always keep an eye on your dog to make sure they don’t try to eat potentially dangerous plants or other found items on the trail that may lead to a vet trip.

Romp in the Leaves

Sometimes, you just can’t venture away from the house, but that doesn’t mean the fun should stop. You can have pet playtime right in your own backyard by playing fetch, rolling in the leaves with your dog, or teaching your pup some new tricks. Make sure your yard is protected with adequate fencing such as an invisible pet fence to keep them safe and close to home.

Plan a Pet-Safe Picnic

Another way to get outside during fall with your pet is to have a pet-safe picnic. Research some seasonal pet-friendly snacks and then head out to a park or even set up in your own backyard. Rake a pile of leaves for your dog to run through and jump into or set up a fun obstacle course to coach them through with treats. Maybe even invite some other doggy friends to make it a real party! As always, keep an eye on potentially dangerous plants or objects to make sure your pet does not ingest these while you’re enjoying your picnic.

Make Fall Inspired Treats

Fall is a popular time to make some tasty treats, especially baked goods that make us feel extra cozy as the weather starts to change. Many of the traditional fall flavors and foods are perfect to use to make special autumn-inspired treats for your pets. Try integrating fall favorites like pumpkin, squash, and apples into your dog’s meals or treats for some extra flavor and fun. You can even make homemade dog treats using canned pumpkin to help improve your dog’s digestion. Just search Google for ‘homemade fall dog treats’ and you will find loads of options. Here’s an excellent peanut butter and pumpkin treat recipe that’s easy to make for your dogs.

Explore Fall Destinations

Many of the traditional fall activities we enjoy year after year can also be enjoyed by our favorite furry friends. If you’re planning a trip to the apple orchard, pumpkin patch, or other festive activities, call ahead and find out if your pet can accompany you. They’ll have a ball exploring the new sights and smells while you get to enjoy the crisp fall weather.

If you’re planning to travel this fall, research pet-friendly hotels or campsites that your pet can stay at. There are many websites available that make it easy to search for pet-friendly places to stay, as well as fun activities that they can partake in.

Fall is the perfect time to get outside and spend some extra time exploring with your pet. Before heading out, always do your research on pet safety and keep an eye on your pet at all times as they are exploring new spaces. Making sure they are safe will make sure you both are able to enjoy the fall season and all it has to offer.
